Hidden in central London, 'Hunting the Cockney Sparrow" was a public art installation that introduced a series of interactive sculptures to the city stage for the duration of London Architecture Week 2006.

Using reconfigured domestic furnishings, the project playfully invited the participation of visitors and passersby to actively transform the nature of the public space.

A treasure map downloaded from the RIBA website lead the visitor to the central square of Bloomsbury Gardens. Here, the visitor was greeted by the original park benches, formally arranged in pairs of twos in each direction, but customised to become eight individual installations, broadcasting different radio stations.

The project represented part of a broader investigation into the role of public spaces today and raised questions as to the role of new technology and communication and in the age of the ipod.

This project was conceived and realised under the alias of awol.cc, in collaboration with Manuel Irsara, Umut Yamac and Paolo Zaide.
